Undignified Motherhood

As blissful as she knows it will be, she also knows that motherhood is going to be a messy, undignified job. She’s not naive. She doesn’t mind, though. She knows that it will be worth it, before she even starts. She may not be holding that sweet baby yet, but she’s already all mom, through and through. It’s been in her heart for longer than she can remember. And now her time has come.

Right from the get-go, she is confronted with her journey of motherhood humility. She hugs the toilet each morning, sometimes all day too. Pity her on the days that she has to keep a 44 ounce empty Subway cup in the car for that sudden bought of queasiness. Her first exercises in multitasking are learning to drive and puke at the same time.

But she doesn’t mind.

One of my favorite things…

I hate to iron. I’m all about easy and have been known to do the good ol’ “college iron” to nice clothes. You know, spray the shirt with with a water spritzer bottle, wipe, wipe, tug, tug, wrinkle free. But when the college iron doesn’t work, I use my steamer. I keep it set up inside my closet and full of distilled water at all times. Makes getting ready so much easier for me.

I LOVE this Wesson Oil Chocolate Cake recipe. Not only has it been in my family forever (My great-grandma, grandma and my mama always made it as I was growing up. My buff bachelor uncle has been known to whip one up, even.), it is truly the “little black dress” of chocolate cake recipes. After shopping around as a hobby baker, I’ve never found one better.

God’s End-of-the-World Promise to Me

gas maskIn March 2012, I watched an episode of “Doomsday Preppers” on NatGeo with my hubby. If you’re not familiar with the show, it spotlights people across America who are preparing for the end-of-the-world. Some build bunkers underground, some collect stores of food and water, some garden and can, some hoard ammunition and guns, some do all of the above. They practice for the day everything turns upside down with mock “bug out” drills.
